Engraved Acrylic Block with LED Lights in a Wooden Base

This weekend, I worked on a project that I have had in my head for a while, but just haven’t had time to do.  It is a lighted laser engraved acrylic block.  And I love the way it turned out.

The wood base contains the battery-powered led lights, and the acrylic block sits in a channel cut into the top.  It can be taken out and used, but I don’t recommend using it for stamping.  When we use our blocks, they tend to get tiny scratches.  The light will reflect off of every one of these scratches.

I was in a hurry to share my block, so my photographs aren’t the best.  It is very difficult to photograph, especially when you don’t have your photo booth set up, and are too impatient to set it all up first.  My first two attempts weren’t quite what I wanted.

Why a lighted engraved acrylic block?

Well, that’s a good question.  I made it for several reasons.  First, it was a challenge to figure out the measurements and make the base to fit, as well as assemble the lights inside the base.  So, I guess the answer here is, “because I could.”  And of course, I love playing with my laser.

I love the thickness of the acrylic block for this particular project.  I’ve made several other lighted acrylic signs in various shapes and sizes that turned out great, but I really like the engraved acrylic block for my stamping business. It’s a great quality Stampin’ Up! block and it looks really good engraved and lighted.

While the laser was on…

Of course, I engraved some other items while I was playing.  I needed a new bone folder with my new logo.  I also wanted to try engraving on the plates for my Stamparatus.  I’m happy to say it worked, and I love how they turned out.  But they’re difficult to photograph too.  There’s only one in the picture because the first one doesn’t look as good.  Sometimes it is trial and error to find the proper settings for the laser.

My other company is the owner of the laser engraver.  So, I have to say, Innovative Solutions Texas, LLC engraved these for me.  You can check them (us) out on Facebook here.  Yes, I did them myself.  I love that my two businesses complement each other so well!
